Question
If you charge a pocket comb by rubbing it with a silk scarf, how can you determine if the comb is positively or negatively charged? Why does a shirt or blouse taken from a clothes dryer sometimes cling to your body? Explain why fog or rain droplets tend to form around ions or electrons in the air. A positively charged rod is brought close to a neutral piece of paper, which it attracts. Draw a diagram showing the separation of charge in the paper, and explain why attraction occurs. Why does a plastic ruler that has been rubbed with a cloth have the ability to pick up small pieces of paper? Why is this difficult to do on a humid day?Explanation / Answer
1) First suspend a plastic rules and rub with cloth. This makes the ruler gets negatively charged.
Now take the pocket comb near to it, if it will gets attracted then it is positively charged otherwise negatively charged.
2) When the clothes are in dryer, they rub against each other which causes the static electricity. This static electricity will gets attracted to the opposite charge that is present on our body. So the clothes cling to the body.
