Calculate the Average Velocity using: Average velocity = Distance/time.

Calculate the final velocity.  Vf = 2 x Vave

Calculate the Acceleration. A = Vf / t

How do the values compare to the known value of g?

Highlight the tables and copy them to a Word document.

Save the document on your hard drive or on a floppy disk.

Print the tables so you can use them to manually record the data.

Access the web page

Right click the URL below and click on open in a new tab.  You will see two files named PVC Freefall.  Click on the second file to find directions for completion of the lab.  Then click on the first file named PVC Freefall to access the lab itself.

For the lab, use Copper as the cylinder and Earth as the planet. The Copper cylinder is 5.0 cm or 0.050 m in length.

Set the Nail position and then click on the Coper cylinder to set it at the Nail's position.

Click on the Nail to release the cylinder. Record the Unblocked time, the time needed to clear the photogate, and the Blocked time, the time when the cylinder enters the photogate. The difference of these times is the Pass time, the time needed to pass through the photogate.

Calculate the Average Velocity of the cylinder. It is equal to 0.050 m divided by the Pass time.

The acceleration due to gravity is the difference between two Average Velocities values divided by the time difference or the sum of Pass times between the two values.

Complete the calculations given in the lab. Record your values, calculate one value of "g", and submit via the drop box for grading
