Considering that we're 60% water, estimate the term reasonableness water, estimate the temperature change, and comment on its b)

Explanation / Answer

(A) Intensity reaching the earth surface = 0.60 x 1370

= 822 W/m^2

intensity aborbed = 0.50 (822) = 411 W/m^2

effective area of human body is about 0.4 m^2 .

hence energy absorbed per unit time = (411) (0.40)

= 164.4 W

Time = 60 min = 3600 sec


Energy absorbed = 164.4 x 3600 = 5.91 x 10^5 J


Order of magnitude = 10^5 J

(b) Q = m C deltaT

mass of average person = 75 kg

hence m = 0.6 x 75 = 45 kg


5.91 x 10^5 = (45) (4186) (deltaT)

deltaT = 3 deg C


this is reasonable answer.
