Question
Using the Animated Figure TTT 0.45C, the isothermal transformation diagram for a 0.45 wt% C steel alloy, specify the nature of the final microstructure (in terms of the microconstituents present) of a small specimen that has been subjected to the following temperature treatments. In each case assume that the specimen begins at 845 °C and that it has been held at this temperature long enough to have achieved a complete and homogeneous austenitic structure all martensite b) Rapidly cool to 625 degrees C, hold for 10 s, then quench to room temperature. all martensite Click if you would like to Show Work for this question: Open Show WorkExplanation / Answer
a) when specimen is rapidly cooled from 845 C to 700 C,
and holding for 30 s, it crosses both the line so, full tranformation
of specimen takes place from austenite to coarse pearlite.
so final form is full coarse pearlite
b) inthis casse too specimen is rapidly cooled to 625 C , and holding for 10 s ,
makes full transformation to Bainite
so final form is full bainite
