5. An OTEC power plant generates 10,000kW using warm surface water inlet temperature of 26 C and a cold water temperature of 15 C. on the basis of a 3 C drop in temperature of the warm water and 3 Crise in temperature of the cold water due to the removal and addition of heat, calculate the power required in kw to pump the cold deep water if the required pumping pressure is 12kPA. Assume the density of the cold water to be 1000kg/m' (20pts) disturbed wind speed at a location is 30miles per hour, the speed at the turbine rotor is 60% of this valueExplanation / Answer
given power generated: 10000kw
temp. drop:3 C.
Power=mass flow rate*temp drop*specific heat
10000(kj/s)= mass flow rate* 3' * 4.18(kj/kg-'C)
mass flow rate=797.44 kg/s
in m^3/s= 0.79744 m^3/s
now pumping power= mass flow rate*pumping pressure
= 0.79744*12(kpa)
=9.5694=9.57 KW
