Question
A cross-section of equipotential surfaces is shown (see link): The surfaces/lines containing the points a, b, c & d have electric potentials of 800 volts, 300 volts and -400 volts respectively: . . . Determine/ calculate the following: . . a) The magnitude and direction of the Electric Field along the regions bc where distance bc is 2 cm. . . b) The work (in eV) required to move an electron from point a to c: . . c) The work (in eV) required to move a proton from point b to a: . . d) The work (in eV) required to move a proton from point a to d: . . e) The work (in eV) required to move an electron from point d to c: . . a) E = V/d
E = 300-(-400)/0.02 = 35000 V = 35 kV
b) Wac = qV = -1*1200 = -1200 eV
c) Wba = qV = -1*-500 = 500 eV
d) Wad = Wac = -1200 eV
e) Wdc = qV = -1*0 = 0 ------------->(c and d are at same potential)
