Question

The bar in the figure falls vertically while maintaining electrical contact with the rails. The rail spacing is 33 , and the field strength is B= 2.0 T....Part (a) was: If the bar drops from rest, what's the magnitude of the induced emf after it's been falling for 0.6 ? (You may assume that the magnetic force on the falling bar is much less than the bar's weight.)..and I got the correct answer or 4 V ......**Part (b) I cannot get : If the bar drops from rest, what's the magnitude of the induced emf after it's been falling for 1.0 ? (I came up with 6V but it wasn't correct)

Explanation / Answer

after the 0.6s the velocity is

(v = u+gt = 10 imes 0.6 = 6)

E= Blv

33x2x6 = 396 or 400

there might be problum of unit because u haven't given the units. may be length is in cm then it's

4V

b) by the eq 1

(v_b = 10 imes 1 = 10)

E = 33x2x10 = 660

so 6.6V
