Question
A laminated conductor was made by laminating, alternately, layers of silver 100 angstroms thick, and layers of tin 200 angstroms thick. The composite material, considered on a larger scale, can be considered to be a homogeneous but anisotropic material with an electrical conductivity (Sigma_perpendicular) for current perpendicular to the planes of the layers, and a different conductivity (Sigma_parallel) for current parallel to that plane. Given the conductivity of silver is 7.2 times that of tin, show that the ratio (Sigma_perpendicular) / (Sigma_parallel) = 0.457.
Please explain the answer step by step so I can understand it better as that is my humble request and I would really appriciate it. Thank You.
