Question

Hi, please if you are not 100% sure do not answer the question :)

clear answers please.

Thank you.

A car is initially travelling at a speed of 25.2 m / s when the driver suddenly notices a slow-moving farm vehicle only 47 m ahead. The farm vehicle is moving at only 4.6 m / s. The driver applies the brakes and slows down with an acceleration of magnitude 4.9 m / s2. If there is no farm vehicle in front, how long does it take the car to come to a halt? If there is no farm vehicle, how far would the car travel during this time? Does the car hit the farm vehicle? Explain your answer.

Explanation / Answer

A) v = u + at

v = 0

u = 25.2

a = -4.9

t = 25.2/4.9 = 5.1428 sec

B)s = ut+0.5at^2

s = 25.2*5.1428 - 0.5*4.9*5.1428^2 = 64.8 m

C)in 5.1428 sec

distance travelled by the farm vehicle is = 4.6 * 5.1428 = 23.65m

intial distance + extra distance covered = 47+23.65 = 70.6588 m

so the collision is avoided because the car comes to a halt in just 64.8 m only
