Question

The allele HN codes for normal hemoglobin and round red blood cells. HN is codominant with the sickle cell allele, HS, that codes for abnormal hemoglobin and sickle-shaped red blood cells. Those with two sickle cell alleles develop sickle cell anemia. Those with two normal alleles have normal hemoglobin and normal cells. What occurs in those who are heterozygous? Select one: a. Heterozygotes have nonmal hemoglobin and nomal-shaped cells. O b. Heterozygotes make both normal and abnormal hemoglobin and have both normal and abnormal cells. O c. Heterozygotes make a blended form of hemoglobin and have intermediate-shaped cells Od. Heterozygotes have sickle-cell anemia A child has the blood type AB. Which combination of blood types is possible for her parents? Seleci one a. Type A and Type A b. Type B and Type o c. Type AB and Type C d. Type A and Type AB What is responsible for the fatal reaction that occurs when type A blood is given to an individual that has type B blood? Seleci one O a. Antibodies from the type B blood attack the antigen in the type A blood b. The antigens in the type A blood attack the type B blood c. The blood types mix to form type AB blood with both A and B antigens O d. No reaction occurs, blood type A is the universal donor.

Explanation / Answer

Question 1st - As sickle cell anemia is a case of Co- dominance so in this case two alleles code together . The genes are work independently to each other in function of co - dominance . So the person who is heterozygous have both types of cell normal and sickle shaped cells.

Question 2nd - The parents blood group is type A and type AB. As in case of blood group one parent can give one allele for a antigen in blood group. For example in type AB blood group parent can either give type A OR TYPE B allele. If BLOOD group is O that means their is no allele for antigen A AND B. IN our case child has AB BLOOD GROUP so it must that parents must contain both A&B allele which is the only possibility in last case .

Question 3rd - when two different blood mix to each other the antigen antibody reaction occurs . Our body makes antibody in response to antigen. When blood of type A is given to type B it means antibodies from B TYPE attack on antigen of type A blood.
