Answer all

A solid sphere with a cross of 0.40kg and a radius of 5.0cm where the angle of identification in 30 degrees: Identify all forces which act on the solid sphere, and show where they act. Resolve where approximate. Calculate the rotational inertis I of the sphere. Apply Newton's second law F =m alpha and the counterpart for angular motion tau = I alpha Solve the equations for the acceleration alpha of the solid sphere. Calculate the friction force Ff. Determine a coefficient mus such that the sphere begins to slide instead of roll down the incline.

Explanation / Answer

a) the gravitational force , the normal force ,the friction force ...

b) I = 2/5 mr^2 = 5*10^-4 kgm^2

c) F =ma => mg sin 30 -f = ma and N - mg cos30 =0

T =I alpha => fr = I*alpha ...where alpha is ang accn. = a/r for no slipping ....=> eqn becomes .. f= 2ma/5

d) putting it in first eqn => mg/2 = 7ma/5 => a = 5g/14 =3.5

e) f = 2ma/5 = .56 m/s^2

f) f>mu*N => f > mu(mg/2)sqrt3 ... so mu < 2/7*sqrt3 .. = .165
