Question
The diagram depicts an RC-circuit where C = 7.60 F, R0 = 24.5 , R1 = 13.5 , R2 = 24.5 and V = 2.00 Volts. The capacitor is initially uncharged.
1)What is the current through R1 immediately after the switch S is closed?
2)What is the current through R2 immediately after the switch S is closed?
3) What is the current through the capacitor immediately after the switch S is closed?
4) What is the current through R1 after the switch S has been closed for a very long time? Assume that the battery does not go dead.
Explanation / Answer
1) Rnet = Ro + R1*R2/(R1+R2) = 33.2 ohm
i = v/Rnet = 0.0602 A
2) current through R2 = i*R1/(R1+R2) =0.0214 A
3) same as current through R2 = 0.0214 A
4) here, current does not flow through R2. so, capacitor and R2 act as open ckt.
Rnet = Ro+R1 = 38
i = v/Rnet = 0.0526 A
here i = 0.0526 A flows through Ro and R1
