Question
Two long, straight wires are oriented perpendicular to the page, as shown in the figure(Figure 1) . The current in one wire is I1=3.0A, pointing into the page, and the current in the other wire is I2=4.0A, pointing out of the page.
Part A: Find the magnitude and direction of the net magnetic field at point P.
Must be in 2 sig figs and in %u03BCT
Part B:
%u03B8 %u2218angle below the dashed line to the right P
I am looking the just the correct answer, first person to have both correct will recieve 5 stars.
Thank you for all the help
Explanation / Answer
r1=5cm ,r2=sqrt(5^2+5^2)=7.1 cm
theta =cos^-1(r1/r2) =cos^1-(5/7.1)=45 degrees
B1=uoI/2pir1 =(4pi*10^-7)*3/2pi*0.05
B1=1.2*10^-5 T
B2=uoI2/2pir2 =(4pi*10^-7)*4/2pi*0.071
B=1.13*10^-5 T
B1x =B1 =1.2*10^-5 T
B2x= -B2cos(theta) =-1.13*10^-5*cos45
B2x=-8*10^-6 T
Bx=B1x-B2x =1.2*10^-5-8*10^-6
Bx=4*10^-6 T
B1y=0
B2y=-B2sin(thete)=-1.13*10^-5*sin45=-8*10^-6 T
By =B1y+B2y=-8*10^-6 T
a)
B=sqrt(Bx^2+By^2] =sqrt[4*10^-6)^2+(-8*10^-6)^2]
B=8.94*10^-6 T
b)
angle =tan^-1(BY/Bx) =tan^-1(-8/4)
angle =63.43 degrees
