1. Cowpox, a viral infection in cows which can spread to humans through contact (zoonosis) has caused illness in Luke.
2. When Luke got cow pox virus , immune system of the body responded by production of antibodies against the virus. The virus closely resembles small pic virus, therefore antibodies in the blood of Luke against cowpox has provided immunity against small pox to Luke.
3. The structure and surface antigens of cowpox and small pic resemble very closely therefore antigens from one virus are used to design vaccine for the other.
