Question

Hello,

can someone run the "experiment" and answer a couple questions? My PC broke and I'm on my mac and I can't get Java to run the applet.

    For Animation 1, plot the period of the motion vs. amplitude.  Drag the ball from equilibrium, varying the amplitude from 1 m to 10 m in 1-m steps.
    For Animation 2, plot the period of the motion vs. amplitude.  Drag the ball from equilibrium, varying the amplitude from 0.1 radian to 1.0 radian in 0.1-radian steps.
    What can you say about the period's dependence on amplitude for each animation?

Help is VERY appreciated!

Thank you!!!

Explanation / Answer

when the amplitude changes from 1m to 10 m then

v_max = A x w = A x (2pi/T)

or T = A x (2pi/v_max)

where A = 1 to 10 m and T is period of motion

when the amplitude changes from 0.1 rad to 1.0 rad then

T1 = S x (2pi/v_max)

where S = r x theta and v_max is maximum velocity

here,r is radius vectors and theta = 0.1 rad to 1.0 rad
