Question
a 2"x2"x10'-0" long steel bar is stretched by a tensile force (F) of 10,000 lbs, as shown. Find the tensile stress, tensile strain, and total elongation of the steel bar.
In lecture my professor said that:
Tensile stress is Force/Area
Tensile strain is the deformation / length
Elastic Modulus is tensile stress / tensile strain
and the deformation is Force*length / elastic modulus*Area
but I'm not sure how to calculate for the tensile strain and the deformation
a 2"x2"x10'-0" long steel bar is stretched by a tensile force (F) of 10,000 lbs, as shown. Find the tensile stress, tensile strain, and total elongation of the steel bar.Explanation / Answer
You must have been given Elastic modulus/ Young's modulus for the question to be solved...
