Question
You are holding a loaded bow aimed at an apple hanging on a tree. You are aiming directly at the apple. When you fire, you hit the apple with your arrow. Did the apple stay on the tree, begin falling just when you released the arrow, or begin falling after you released the arrow? Justify you answer. Ignore air resistance for the apple and arrow.
I thought the apple just begin falling when I released the arrow because it makes a projectile motion, but i need more explanation to it..
I know it's not "the apple stay on the tree" because of the gravity acting on the arrow and the apple, and i'm aiming at the apple straight.
please help me!!
Explanation / Answer
begin falling just when you released the arrow
REASON - when we released the bow the bow was given a horizontal velocity and then it had acceleration due to gravity in vertical direction. as the bow was directly aimed at apple so if bow moves vertically due to gravity si should the apple moves to come in contact when bow reaches the same horizontal coordinate as apple.
