Question
A box with mass M = 29.0kg rests on a table.
A. Determine the weight of the box. 284 N
B. Determine the normal force exerted on the box by the table if there is nothing on top of it?
C. A 10.0- kg box is placed on top of the 29.0-kg box, as shown in the figure. Determine the normal force that the 29.0 kg box exerts on the 10.0-kg box.
D. Determine the normal force that the table exerts on the 29.0-kg box.
Explanation / Answer
a) weight of the box = M*g =29*9.81 =284.49 N
b)if there is nothing on the top it , normal reaction is equal to weight
so normal reaction =284.49 N
c)if 10 kg box is kept on 29 kg box, all the weight of 10 kg box will be balanced by 29 kg box
so normal force given by 29 kg box to 10 kgbox =10*9.81 =98.1 N
d) that will be equal to total weight on table so =98.1+284.49 =382.59
