Question

Please answer ALL the questions below.

a) One of the timing devices Galileo used was his pulse. Drop a rubber ball from a height of
about 2 m and try to determine how many pulse beats elapsed before it hits the ground. What was the timing problem that Galileo encountered?

b) Now measure the time it takes for the rubber ball to fall 2 m, using a wrist watch or wall clock. Did the results improve substantially?

c) Roll the hard ball down a ramp that makes an angle of about 10 Please answer ALL the questions below.

Explanation / Answer

part1) pulse is determined by mechanisms of internal body and excitement at that point (it is more) so, the problem faced by Galileo is with inconsistency with the number of pulses thus causing error in the experiment.

part2) Yes the result improve substantially as error decreases

part3) different for both the cases the result better with wrist watch

part 4)yeah it was possible to get useful data as the result can easily provide proofs of the value of gravity and there were no other method of doing that at that time I guess
