Question

Can you explain to me what is tangential component of acceleration in case of a rotating disk? Give an example when the tangential component of acceleration is zero (and explain why it is zero), and an example when is it not zero (and explain why it is not zero).

2)calculate moment of inertia of the system of 3 balls like this:

Ball 1: M1 = 2 Kg, X = -5 m, Y = 0
Ball 2: M2 = 4 Kg, X = + 5 m, Y = 0
Ball 3: M3 = 3 Kg, X = 0, Y = 5 m

X. and Y are coordinates of each ball. The axis of rotation is perpendicular to the XY plane, and it is passing through the coordinate system origin, X=0, Y=0.

Explanation / Answer

In case of rotating disk angular acceleration vector points along the axis of rotation in the same direction that the angular velocity would point if the angular acceleration were maintained for a long time. It will be zero when axis of rotation will be inside the curve and vice versa.
