Question
A positive charge +q is located at the point x = 0, y = - a, and a negative charge - q is located at the point x = 0, y = +a.Part A
Derive an expression for the potential V at points on the x-axis as a function of the coordinate x. Take V to be zero at an infinite distance from the charges.
-Answer is 0
-Not sure on the answers for b and c though
b) Graph V at points on the x-axis as a function of x over the range from x = - 4a to x = +4a.
c)What is the answer to part B if the two charges are interchanged so that +q is at y = +a and - q is at y = - a?
Explanation / Answer
As every point is equidistant from the two charges the potential on x-axis is 0 draw the graph of y=0, the answer doesnt change if the charges are interchanged
