1). The process in which mate preferences in one sex result in differences in fitness for phenotypes of the opposite sex is called sexual selection. The sexual selection also influenced the human evolution. As per Darwin’s hypothesis, the human evolution of human brain (human intelligence) is a result of sexual selection. The differences in the appearance of humans of different geographical regions, inheritance of hairlessness and bears are also being considered as the consequences of sexual selection. The inheritance of humor, visual arts, creativity, music etc. are all relegated to sexual selection, these traits are preserved though they are not essentially related to survival because of sexual selection. As females choose the multi-talent men or the men with more intelligence.
A specific example is a sexual selection in peacocks and peahens. The number of eyes in the tail feathers of peacocks attracts the peahens. They prefer the peacocks with more eyes in the tail feathers over the fewer eyes on the tail feathers. This eventually led to the death of peacocks with fewer eyes on the feathers and allowed the peacocks with more eyes on feathers to continue. It is an example of intersexual selection. That is, the males compete with one another to be chosen by the females.
