Question
What is precision Agriculture?
Interview 3 people and ask the following questions:
1) What is your level of experience in agriculture and please describe your experience.
2) What is your understanding of the use of technology in agriculture today?
3) Give me your definition of precision agriculture.
Once you have interviewed 3 people write a one page summary of each of the interviews, include in the paper a comparison of what was similar and what was different about each person's understanding of precision Ag.
Explanation / Answer
Precision agriculture or satellite farming or site specific crop management(SSCM) is a farming management concept based on observing , measuring and responding to inter and intra field variability in crops. The goal of precision agriculture is to define a decision support system for whole farm management with the goal of optimizing return in inputs while preserving resources.
The practice of precision agriculture has been enabled by the advent of GPS(Global positioning system) and GNSS(Global navigation satellite system). The farme's and researcher's ability to locate their precision position In a field allows for creation of maps of the spatial variability of as many variables as can be measured(exg terrain topography, crop yield , organic matter content, moisture content ,Nitrogen levels,pH etc.)
Precision agriculture has also been enabled by technologies like crop yield monitors mounted on GPS equipped combine harvesters, seeders, sprayers etc.
Among these approach is the phytogeomorphological approach which ties multi-year crop growth stability and characteristics with topological terrain attributes,it is so because the geomorphological attribute typically dictates the hydrology of the farm land.
