Question

You are at the origin of a coordinate system containing clocks, but you are not sure if the clocks have been synchronized. The clocks have reflective faces, allowing you to read them by shining light on them. You flash a bright light at the instant your clock reads t=2.000000 s.

a) At what time will you see the reflection of the light from a clock at x = 3000m? ...You would have to compensate for the time the light travels also i think.

b) When you see the clock at x = 3000 m, it reads t=2.000020 s. Is the clock synchronized with your clock at the origin? Explain.

Explanation / Answer

a) t=6000/300= 20 us b)no. light travels from the origin to the clock 300 m away & illuminates the time sjown on clock at the instant
