Question

A car of mass = 1100 kg traveling at 55.0 km/hr enters a banked turn covered with ice. The road is banked at an angle , and there is no friction between the road and the car's tires. (Figure 1) . Use a = 9.80m/s^2 throughout this problem. What is the radius of the turn if = 20.0 (assuming the car continues in uniform circular motion around the turn)? Radius = 65.37 I have solved this question and i am now trying to think beyond 1) What would be the minimum coefficient of kinetic friction, to keep the car from sliding, if it is traveling 55 km/hr on a curved bank at 20 degrees? 2) Does the angle of a curved bank that the car is driving on effect the force minimum coefficient of kinetic friction? 3)Does the weight of the vehicle effect the coefficient of kinetic friction on an angled curve? Please give a brief explanation Thank you

Explanation / Answer

Given values in SI units The vertical component of the normal reaction "N sin ?" = mv^2/R ( centripetal force) N cos ? = mg Dividing the equations tan ? = v^2 /(Rg) m = 1,100 kg ? = 20.0
