Question
A small block (mass m) slides down a long straight ramp that slopes at an angle heta from the horizontal. The block is affected by both sliding friction by the incline (coeefficient mu ) and an air resistance force (treat as proportional to speed; i.e., c_1>0, c_2=0). As the block slides, it eventually reaches a terminal speed.
Write the equation of motion for the block. Also, determine the terminal speed in terms of the given quantities and g. Show that your answer gives the correct result for heta = 90 degrees
Explanation / Answer
treat as proportional to speed; i.e., c_1>0, c_2=0) i dont get the meaning of this line so i take resistance force as F: mgSin(theta) - (mu)*mgCos(theta) - F = ma, where F is air resistance, for terminal speed it will have no acceleration, mgSin(theta) - (mu)*mgCos(theta) = F, for theta = 90, mg - F = ma, as there will be only air resistance no friction
