1) Life cycle of plant is known as alternation of generation. They key between haploid and diploid. The diploid generation is known as the sporophyte generation, which produces haploid spores by the process of meiosis and spores develop into a haploid generation by the process of mitosis. This is the gametophyte generation, which produces the gametes. The gametes combine and form a diploid zygote, which becomes a sporophyte.

2) The dominant generation of a moss is gametophyte and this generation is haploid. Mosses have the haploid gametophyte generation as the dominant phase of the life cycle.

3) Water plays an essential role in the reproductive life cycles of nonvascular plants. Water is required for them to swim to the egg. Sperm from the antheridia swim to the archegonia in the presence of water and the process of fertilisation occurs. It leads to the production of a diploid sporophyte. Fertilisation cannot occur without water.

4) The moss of sporophyte is not photosynthetic. The sporophyte generation is dependent on the photosynthetic gametophyte for nutrition. These sporophytes have no photosynthetic capabilities and are dependent on the gametophytes for the requirements of nutrition.
