Question
Explain how one would differentiate tissue that was pseudostratified, stratified, or simple. Give an example of each type of tissue. While Dr Wentz-Hunter was in Canada over spring break, she decided to go on ice river tour of Jackson Canyon. During the tour, she was separated from her group and became lost. At first she was not worried but then the sun set and she had not found her way back to the lodge. As a result she was forced to spend the night in the canyon. A) Describe the process that Dr Wentz-Hunter's body would go through to prevent hypothermia. Be very specific. B) If Dr Wentz has food and water with her, are her chances of avoiding hypothermia better or worse? Why? C) She noticed some Canadian Geese were near her during the night and did not seem to be having any problems with the temperature. In fact, some were standing in the water of a nearby river. Explain the processes of thermoregulation in this animal that may allow them to stand in near freezing water. D) Would you expect Dr Wentz to be able to stand in the water without effect? Why or why not?Explanation / Answer
1) PSEUDOSTRATIFIED TISSUE: A pseudostratified tissue is a type of tissue that, though comprising a single type of cell nuclei positioned in a manner suggestive of stratified epithelia. As it is rearly occurs as squamous or cuboidal epithelia, it usually called as pseudostratified columnar eithelium.
Some of the examples are Pseudostratified columnar epithelia is found in the lining of the trachea as well as the upper respiratory tract. Non-ciliated pseudostratified columnar epithelia are located in the membrane part of male vs deferens.
STRATIFIED TISSUE: A stratified squamous epithelium consists of squamous epithelial cells arranged in layers upon a cutaneous membrane. Only one layer isin contact with the basement membrane; the other layers adhere to one another to maintain structural integrity. Although this epithelium is referred to as,squamous many cells within the layers maynot be flattened. This is due to the convention of naming epithelia according to the cell type at the surface.
Ex: non keratinizing epithelium is the best example for stratifie
2) (A): When Dr Wentz-Hunter was forced to live in such a cool weather during that night her body resisted her a lot because, for every humanbeing our body is built to always maintain to stable core temperature of 37 degrees celcius(that is 98.6 degrees Fh). When the temperature in the environment drops, thermoreceptors in our skin sound the alarm, alerting an area of the brain called hypothalamus, which acts like thermostat dedicated to maintaining that 37 degrees temp. The first step that hypothalamus takes is-- it tightens the blood vessels in your arms, hands, feet and legs. "Blood delivers heat to skin", and it protects us from hypthermia. In this way she was safe and protect by the autoimmune system of the body.
(B) Canadian geese is a non featherd living bird which has capacity to move in very low temperature like -1 degree celcius. The body structure of that bird is a boon because it is resistant to such a cool temperatures and the feet of geese is same as like duck which can swim in cool waters.Canadian geese can regulate its body temperature based upon the external environment.
(C) No she cannot stay in the water withou effect because the boady may varies from animals to humans. Human body is resistant upto certain temperature. If it exceeds it may be dangerous so if she stands in the water, she will be effected with freezing effect for sure.
