Question
Capacitors C1 = 3450 nF and C2 = 700 nF are initially connected in parallel and hold a combined charge of Qtot = 783 nC. Find the charge on each capacitor Q1iand Q2 and the total energy Utot stored in the system. The capacitors are then disconnected and reconnected with their terminals reveresed, so that the positively charged side of C1 is now connected to the negatively charged side of C2 and vice versa. Find the total charge Qtot(final) and total energy stored in the final state. (Remember, the total charge one the entire capacitor is zero, but Q is how much positive and negative charge have separated.) For parallel capacitors Ctot = C1 + C2 = 4150 nF i calculated voltage(equipotential) to be .189 V (Ctot = Qtot / V(voltage) through voltage=Q/C i calculated Q1=651 nC and Q2=132 nC and the U = 1/2 Ctot V^2 = 74.1 nJ Now what I want to know, and am stuck on, is HOW and WHY does the system change when the charges reverse? Just HOW andWHY!!!!Explanation / Answer
when in parallel Ceq = 4150 nF ,Qtotal = 783 nC V = 0.1886 volts Q1 = C1*V = 650.675 nC ,Q2 = C2*V = 132.02nC total energy = 73.866*10^-9 J
terminals are reconnected so
already charge on these capacitors are neutralised when it is reveresed and again charging takes place and same charge will come after sometime..total charge doesnot changes same charge will be there
