Question
The light from a heated atomic gas is shifted in frequency because of the random thermal motion of
light-emitting atoms toward or away from an observer. Estimate the fractional Doppler shift delta f/f0
assuming that the light frequency f0 is emitted in the rest frame of each atom, that the light-emitting
atoms are iron atoms in a star of temperature 6000K, and that the atoms are moving relative to an
observed with the speed given by the average speed <v> of the Maxwell distribution of molecular
speeds. Note that delta f is the maximum minus minimum frequency.
Explanation / Answer
u use the doppler shift formula put that values and u get the answer very easily
http://astronomyonline.org/Science/DopplerShift.asp u see this link u will get idea easily about how to do the question
