Question
How should I approach the following type of problem to find the KE? A rolling pin rolls down on a vertical flat platform(with contact only of its middle part) in the manufacturing process and when it reaches the bottom of the vertical surface where now only its sides come in contact with the surface. (Do I need to get the inertia of the three parts of hte rolling pin in the top and in the bottom? and also the Kinetic energies of the top and the bottom?)

just use energy conservation..
i.e change in K.E. = change in P.E.
K.E. = (1/2)mv^2 + (1/2)Iw^2
where I = moment of ineria
P.E. = mgh
