Question

A restriction map is shown of a region in two homologous chromosomes that differ with respect to the absence (allele a) or presence (allele b) of one Xhol restriction site. You have a DNA probe (hatched box) that is identical to a DNA region of both alleles, as indicated by the probe's position in the drawing. In a Southern blot of DNA from an individual heterozygous for these two alleles, cut with Xhol, and probed with this DNA probe: Two bands will be detected with me probe 7kb end 3kb One band will be detected with the probe 7kb Two bands will be detected with the probe 7kb end 4kb Three bands will be detected with the probe 7kb. 4kb. end 3kb The normal (wild typo) shape of a particular type of squash is - disk -shaped ' Two separately isolated mutant squashes have a sphere" shape, instead. Each of these mutant squashes is true-breeding. When these two sphere-shaped squash are crossed with one another, all of the F1 squash are disk-shaped (wild-type shape). This is an example of: Incomplete dominance Generic Complementation Hypermorphic mutation Sex-limited expression The simplest explanation for these findings is that the two. independently isolated, sphere-shaped squash (each is true-breeding) have the following genotypes; Squash 1 = aaBB Squash 2 = AABB Squash 1 = AaBB Squash 2 = AAbb Squash 1 = AAbb Squash 2 = aaBB Squash 1 = aabb Squash 2 = AABB

Explanation / Answer

The first question in image is not clear, let me help you with the other two ..

ans 7 b genetic complementation

here the two squash species have different homozygous recessive mutations which when mated will produce the same wild phenotype.

ans 8 c squash 1 AAbb squash 2 aaBB

if these squashes have mutation in the same gene then the complement progeny will not be formed. 2 working dominant genes are required to produce protein for disc shaped so lack of even one , will render the shape sphere as in the case of mutant species.

the offspring will be AaBb, it has both dominant alleles so it exhibits wild phenotype disc shaped.
