Homework 2: Microcontroller Comparison The purpose of this homework assignment is to examine three different microcontrollers. The first will be the dsPIC33EP128GP502 that we're using in class. The second will be the Texas Instruments MSP430F133. The final processor is the MC9S12VR32 from NXF Microchip PIC24FI64GA102 Microchip dsPIC33EP128GP502 Texas Instruments MSP430i2041 NXP MC9S12VR32 Processor: How many bits wide is the data bus? What is the size of the Flash Memory? What is the fastest execution rate for instructions? (MIPS) What is the maximum number of IO pins available on this device? What is the maximum resolution, in bits, of the Analog to Digital Converter? How many 16-bit timers does this device have? What is Vpo for each device? How many UART or USART orts does this device have? Name the Power Saving states/modes available for each device Which of the devices is designed specifically for Automotive applications?Explanation / Answer
All mentioned devices are type of microcontroller and are more or less same. Only difference is 16 bit or 32 bit, flash memory, no of pins etc. For automotive applications, 32bit microcontroller is good as it is faster and capable, but 16 bit can also be used.
