Most desirable control strategies for suspension design of automotive among all mentioned damping system is critically damped system.
In step function, suspension will work instantly which is not desirable. It will lead to break suspension and injured person driving car.
In overdamped systems, car bounces violently due to large rise time, it takes time to stabilized car, as system take time to reach stability. It is very tough for small bumpy roads.
Critically damped system, in which rise time is moderate and raech stability moderately faster than other systems. Car drives smoothly over bumpy road. Most desirable system for suspension design.
Underdamped system, in which rise time is small, it take time to reach stability, but system oscillates before stability, which leads to bump car. Ride will be smoother on small bumps but vibrates apparently.
Unstable constant amplitude response is not desirable as it will vibrates car continuously and will never achieve stability.
Unstable increasing amplitude is also not desirable as vibration is increasing instead of decreasing, which unstable and will not attend stability.
Therefore only critically damped system is most desirable among given choices, as approximately no vibration occurs on bumpy road.
