If the ball rebounds to iscin.. what was its Drop-height? =180 uestionsExplanation / Answer
for the given data
x-> height of drop
y -> rebound height
linear interpolation
0.826x - 0.29 = y, R^2 = 0.996
quadratic interpolation
y = 4.208x^2 + 0.807x - 0.109, R^2 = 0.995
as linear model has R^2 value closer to 1, hence linear model is abetter fit
now,
b. for y = 0.826x - 0.29
when drop height = 0
it means rebound height = -0.29 m, but y can never be negative
hence
for non negative y
0.826x - 0.29 > 0
x > 0.29/0.826
hence
practical significance of the y intecept is the rebound height when the ball is dropped form 0 height
now, this shoudl be ideally 0, but we do get some intercept. this intercept helps us to know the minimum drop height required to get non negative rebound height
c. ideal value for y intercept must be 0 as the ball should not move when it is not dropped ( or dropped form 0 height)
