A violin string is stretched between the tuning peg and the bridge. When the string is pulled to the side a distance d (such as when you are about to pluck it) the string opposes the pull with a force of magnitude F = Kd, where K is some constant. The force is opposite to the direction that the string has been pulled (i.e. it is a restoring force). When the string is released will it execute simple harmonic motion? How do you know? If you are not sure then reread the section 14.2 of the text.
