Question
The figure shows the position of an object as a function of time. During the time interval from time t = 0.0 s and time t = 9.0 s:
(a) what is the length of the path the object followed?
(b) what is the displacement of the object?
Can you please explain in detail on how the length of the path is found. I already know the displacement of the object, but don't understand how the length is found. I have an exam on this and need to understand it.
Explanation / Answer
a)length of path = total lenght travelled
=length form t=0 to t=3 + length form t=3 to t=6 +length form t=6 to t=9
= 3 +0 +2=6 m
displacement =final -initial =1-0=1 m
