Question
3. A vector has a magnitude of 40.0 units and points 35.0 above the positive x axis. A second has a magnitude of 65.0 units and points in the negative x direction. Use the component method of vector addition to find the magnitude and direction, relative to the positive x axis, of the resultant A) 53.3 units, 141.8deg relative to the +x axis B) 53.3 units, 52.1deg relative to the +x axis C) 39.6 units, 125.4deg relative to the +x axis D) 39.6 units, 54.6deg relative to the +x axis E) 46.2 units, 136.0deg relative to the +x axisExplanation / Answer
Now calcualte net value in X direction and In Y direction
In X direction = 40 Cos35 - 65 = -32.23
In Y direction = 40 Sin35 = 22.943
BY applying pythagoras theorem Resultant = 39.6 units and now calculate angle by aplying
tan angle = (net force in Y)/ (net force in X direction )
so it will be come out approx 144 from +x direction .
therefore ans would be C .
