Question

Additional question #1: (1 question, 11 points each, Total of 11 points for this section.) We will use our LOGO to calculate the speed of a spinning shaft that has 8 bolts on a flat plate on the end of the shaft. We will use an inductive proximity sensor to sense the bolts as the plate spins The sensor is connected to input number 4 on a LOGO 12/24 RC. How fast can the disk spin (in RPM) before the LOGO can't measure its speed? Hint 1: The input to the LOGO can sense an input that switches on and off slowly. But, as the shaft speeds up, there is a limit to how fast the LOGO's input can sense the on / off transitions. There is a maximum frequency for the input. This is listed in the technico details for the LOGO, which is in the manual, which is in the shared tiny.cc folder Hint 2: The answer is not 30 RPM

Explanation / Answer

Maximum switching frequency is 0.5Hz for inductive load

In one RPM 8 bolts will pass

It can sense a bolt every 1/0.5 = 2

i.e, it's maximum capacity is 2 bolts per second

So, it one minute it can sense (maximum)= 2 x 60 = 120 bolts

So, maximum RPM it can sense = 120/8 = 15 RPM

So, if the disk spin at more than 15 RPM it cannot sense. So, if it spins at 16 RPM the snsor can't sense.

So, if the disk spin at 15 RPM before the LOGO 12/24 RC can't measure it's speed.
