Question
I have a lab report involving the work energy theorem and I need a few questions answered. A PASCO cart pulley system was used.
My graph above is kinetic energy and work where KE is the slope that declines abruptly when the cart reaches the end of the track
1. Why does the Work continue to increase while the KE decreases
2. Why is the Work- Energy Theorem better or easier than other techniques for some problems?
3. Which problmes benefit from the concept of work?
- please address the 3 questions above, I know they aren't that hard but I want to get this right
Explanation / Answer
1) Work done =sum of kinetic energy and potentia energy
Although kinetic energy decreases, potential energy increases.
Hence overall the amount of energy increases , thus work done also increases
2)It is better as it involves simple calculations to calculate other part of energy , if one can be calculated.Say my potential energy calcualtions are very difficult or say my heat loss , friction energy calculations are difficult, then we can easily apply WORK ENERGY theorom to calculate such values as change in energy is work done
3)The problems in which energy calculation of one part is ifficult and others quite simple.
Most of the motion equations, collision equations can be done using this theorom
