Question
Suppose you own land with a large section of old-growth forest. A logging company offers you a lucratve deal to allow them land rights to log the forestland and plant a tree farm. You really need the money, but would prefer a deal that applies the win-win principle of sustainability. What kindo f ounterproposal or differet perspective could you offer to favor sustainability? Describe one thing you do that contributes to te depletion and/or degradation of the earth's capital. What changes can you make in your liife that will contribute to environmental sustainability?
Explanation / Answer
Logging is one of the most prominent and best-known forms of forest degradation and destruction. Despite improved logging techniques, unsustainable logging of tropical rainforests continues. This should be totally prohibated. However from the economic and sustainability prospect, the counterdeal that could be offered is to do selective logging where only one or two valuable tree species are harvested from an area and equvalently trees are planted on the other part of the forest, so that equlibrium is maintained.
Degradation or depletion is the deterioration of the environment through depletion of earth''s resources such as air, water and soil i.e the destruction of ecosystems. We can contribute to overcome the cause by planting more and more trees and creating a man made forest. It will save wildlife, environment, climate ,soil, and as a whole our earth.
Sustainability is the ability of the Earth's various natural systems and human cultural systems and economies to survive and adapt to changing environmental conditions indefinitely. To maintain sustainability we can Protects natural capital, lives off the income natural capital provides and does not compromise the ability of future generations to meet their basic needs.
