Question

Complete the following problems to turn in. Read carehlly and RD 0t 0) N1: The following questions all involve using a converging lens with a focal length of 20 centimeters. (a) If an object 3 centimeters tall is placed 25 centimeters in front of the leus, calculate the image (b) If an object 3 centimeters tall is placed 75 centimeters in front of the lens, calculate the image (e) If an object 4.5 centimeters tall is placed 25 meters- 250 centimeters in front of the lens, distance, the magnification of the image, and the size of the image distance, the magnification of the image, and the size of the image calculate the image distance, the magnification of the image, and the size of the image. (d) If an object 1.8 meters tall is placed 100 meters in froat of the lens, calculate the image distance, the magnification of the image, and the size of the image

Explanation / Answer

a] Focal length of the lens = f = 20 cm

object distance = u = 25 cm

use the lens equation:

1/f = 1/v + 1/u

=> 1/20 + 1/v + 1/25

=> v = 100 cm

this is the distance from the lens to the image.

The magnification of the image will be:

m = - v/u = - 100/25 = - 4.

so, the size of the image will be:

H = |m|h = 4(3) = 12 cm

the image will be inverted and magnified.

repeat this process for [b],[c] and [d].
