Question
You have a limestone that contains calcite (CaCO_3) bivalve shells that have been cemented together by calcite. You also have a quartz (Si02)-rich siltstone that contains intact fish skeletons (bones composed of apatite - Ca_5(PO_4)_3(OH)). You are interested in obtaining in situ images of both using X-ray Computed Tomography (CT), but you only have sufficient funds to image one. Which is the most effective use of your money - the fossiliferous limestone or the fossiliferous siltstone? Explain your answer.Explanation / Answer
i would x ray the fossiliferous siltstone as the fish skeleton's chemical composition is different from that of the siltstone. so it would produce a clearer image as there is sharp contrast chemical as well as minerological. so it would produce a charp contrasting boundary clear image.
