Explanation / Answer

Euthanasia – the practice of intentionally ending a life in order to relieve pain and suffering. Shrouded in controversy, euthanasia is regarded for some to be against the sanctity of life, while others argue that it is a way self-intended way to alleviate suffering, preserving the bodily integrity and still enables the taker a sense of personal autonomy. This started as a decent way to stop the suffering of one who is in chronic illness and the chances of whose recovery are next to impossible. The consent of the one who is to be euthanized is a must. A non-voluntary approach of euthanasia is plain murder. But, in recent days, the act of euthanasia that is being performed on animals is nothing more that immoral and cruel.

On a personal basis, if I’m to suffer from some disease, (incurable or where the chances of me being better is uncertain) one in which I’m bed-driven and unable to perform even the slightest of my daily chores, that adds up to the pains and suffering of me and my family, I’d want to be euthanised. Even worse, if I’m to be in a state of coma, where the doctor(s) is certain that my health and condition is not going to be better, I’d want my children/siblings/spouse to take the decision on my behalf. Such a decision of mine is to ensure that no further discomfort leading to mental and physical torture is to be experienced by my near and dear ones. I consider it to be a selfish yet a selfless decision, one that I still am able to make myself.
