Direct-to-consumer advertising should be bann as advertising prescription drugs can mislead people and more and more misuse of drugs can be seen. In many developing countries a large group of people takes drugs based on their consultation with the pharmacy person and not with the physician. Such misuse of prescribed drugs based on can lead to more adverse effects. For example most of the people can take antibiotics based on the kind of symptoms they have by just consulting the pharmacy related person. As a result mostly antibiotics resistance are raising in large group of people. Severe is the cases related to Tuberculosis where patient don't respond to first line therapy of the drugs and this can lead to cases of multi drug resistance and extreme drug resistance. As a result of advertising of prescription drugs even many group of people can take medicines on their own without consulting physician. As it is said half knowledge is always dangerous similarly is the case with advertising prescription drugs. Not only it can enhance the price of the drug due to advertisement but can also mislead people as we can observe antibiotics resistance is an classic example.
