Results of her oral glucose tolerance test revealed the following blood glucose levels: Fasting: 90mg/dl 1 hour: 195 mg/dl 2 hour: 163 mg/dl Elizabeth’s health care provided advised her to consume a no-sugar, low carbohydrate diet and to keep her weight gain low throughout the rest of the pregnancy. 1. Yes, Elizabeth is having gestational diabetes as showed by the blood sugar levels. Gestational diabetes can be life thereatning for the mother as well as the baby if left untreates in severe case it can also lead to death.
2. Due to increased blood sugar level the glucose which is present in the blood enters the placenta leading the babies placenta to produce insulin in abnormal amounts which leads to abnormal weight gain in baby.
