GERD means Gastrocursesophageal Reflux Disease .Here acid reflux occurs from the stomach due to poor sphinture control into the esophagus.

Ranitidine is a H2 Blocker which inhibits the action of histamin on cells and thus reducing the effect of acid on stomach.

Antacids only neutralizes the acid does not treat the inflammation caused by GERD
