Race Ethnicity Religion Gender Family Sexual identity Political views Values Physical abilities Country of origin Age Economic class Geographic region Education Language

Explanation / Answer

1)Two diversities that I choose to explain which important in healthcare organisation are:

A) Education: For the appropriate functioning of every department in a healthcare organisation, the education of staff is highly relevant. Every task assigned requires specific skill to be completed. To have knowledge about what is to be performed can be achieved through education. Not every educated person is highly professional. but to understand the code of ethics, policies and protocols its important to have a basic knowledge of the subject.

For example: Nurse in HCO cannot prescribe the medication because its authorised theoritically and practically to a doctor only. If she tries it may end up with a sentinal event. OR a person who is uneducated or have only a matriculation certificate cannot be asigned to administer medications.

In the same way, every employees are allocated works and assigned certain tasks to be done based on their education level. Thus it helps in improving the standard and quality of care provided and also to avoid mistakes. Not only the education of staff but also understanding the education level of a patient is important. This would prevent miscommunication and would provide good rapport between patient and healthcare provider. The patient with good education may understand the diagnosis and treatment regimen when explained but an uneducated patient may need more explainations or a mediator to explain his/her treatment plan.

B) Sexual identity: Dealing with certain patients, sexual identity matters a lot. For example: a female patient would prefer a female nurse or a female doctor to examine her. She will be more free to express herself to the healthcare provider of the same gender as compared to the opposite sex. Therefore, gender also improves the quality of care provided in HCO.

2) Clients in a healthcare organisation are of different diversities and cultures. While rendering care and services to them, one should keep in mind these diversities. The potential of people of different diverisities and cultures is different. Thus presence of such elements would improve the recruitment and retention efforts.
