Explanation / Answer
" There comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe nor politic, nor popular but he must take it because conscience tells him its right."
- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr
" My Faith doesnt just say God can heal me, my faith says I AM HEALED right now !"
1 Peter 2:24
Healing and Autonomy is correlated. In present modern world every individual has the right to decide upon availing the treatment of their choice and whether to take any kind of treatment or not. In Christian Faith, Bible never says to stop every treatment modalities applied and only believe in a miracle. " Our Lord being alive, is a get healer. Lord who is our creator knows our body and He is capable of removing every suffering from us". Miracles do happen in many cases where doctors find no hope with any further medical treatment but that is based on the faith of the person. Its not necessary to stop taking treatment to receive a miracle.
In the case of Mike and Joanne who is drawn by Christian faith, is not making a correct decision of stopping medical treatment. This only worsened the condition of their child James. Rather they could go for the treatment simultaneously with their religious faith. God can be miraculous at times with the medications given. There is no point in thinking if God is punishing him, If He is testing him. Its only losing our hope and faith. Its the Autonomy of God to decide the number of years one has to survive on earth. God is the one who gives life and has the authority to take it back. We have no right to question His acts. If one pretends to be a child of God, then he should have faith without any doubts.
Mike and Joanne can make all necessary prayers, seek advice and guidance from their religious leaders even with the treatment going on other hand. One's autonomy to choose treatment should be used in such a matter that will not worsen the condition of any person. Mike and Joanne should understand the Christian faith never suggests to harm any one, and never discourages seeking medical help when needed. Faith without actions are of no use.
