Why is it important to protect intellectual property?

Why is it important to protect intellectual property?

Intellectual property should be protected the creator of the intellectual property to benefit from his or her work. For example, if an artist creates a painting after putting in months of hard work, he deserves credit for that painting and must be the one who receives all the income from selling or exhibiting it. Similarly, if a company comes up with a particular product after putting in several months of research and development, then only that company should be allowed to produce and sell that product. No other company should be allowed to copy that product and sell in the market.

Another reason for protecting intellectual property is that it promotes creativity. If others are not allowed to copy one’s work then creativity is encouraged for everybody.
